List of norms that can be put up on the chart

To maintain consistent classroom discipline, setting up rules or norms in a chart is a good technique to get the work done as expected. Students needed to be reminded regularly the norms.

The norms for setting the chart can be finalized by the teacher and the entire school. However, most of the right feedback can be got during a brainstorming session from the students itself.

Some of the most common norms that can be used in a classroom are:

  1. Greet your teachers / elders when you meet them.
  2. Raise your hands when you want to speak.
  3. Avoid physical fights.
  4. Keep your classroom and school clean.
  5. Take care of yours and school belongings.
  6. Do your homeworks daily.
  7. Be a good listener.
  8. Learn to respect your teacher or another student while they are speaking.
  9. Be in your assigned seat and ready to work when the bell rings or when the class starts.
  10. Bring required books and materials to every class, unless told otherwise by the teacher.
  11. Come to class prepared.
  12. Listen and stay seated when someone is speaking.
  13. Follow directions the first time they are given.
  14. Treat everyone and their property respectfully.
The rules will vary depending upon the cultural environment of the students from place to place. You could put a list of relevant norms you think is appropriate.

Once again, I reiterate that the best of the quality classroom rules/norm will come out by getting a feedback from your own students in a piece of paper. Besides, this will also boost the morale of your students.

You should actually have a list of at most 2 to 3 rules. You cannot list them all. When you try, you will leave some off. Then a student breaks that, and where are you? It's not on the list, so they broke no rule.

You only 3:
1) Be in class on time and fully prepared to work.
2) Respect will be given to all parties at all times in this classroom

Students already know how to act.
Classroom discipline is not a set of rules. It is respect between the teacher and students.
